Krishna Jayanthi special! What/ When/ How Is Krishna Janmashtami celebrated?

                 The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Jayanthi (Janmashtami) and it is one among the biggest festivals celebrated all over India. Lord Krishna is consider as the Descender of Lord Vishnu on Earth. Lord Krishna is known for his simplicity, mischievousness activities, and also as romantic lover, saviour of Dharma, author and narrator of the greatest Indian scriptures BHAGAVATGITA.


                The birth of Lord Krishna (the eighth avatar of Vishnu) is widely known as Janmashtami/Krishna Jayanthi in India. It is being celebrated today(11/08/2020) across India. This important Hindu festival is also known as Gokulashtami. The most powerful of Vishnu’s incarnations is Lord Krishna.


Birth of Lord Krishna:


                   In the mid night of Ashtami (8th day of krishnapaksha) in the month Shravana (July-August) Lord Krishna was born in a dungeon(prison) at Mathura where his parents King Vasudev and Devaki were imprisoned. Owing to threat of his life, he was secretly taken to Gokulam and there he was brought up by the chief of the Yadavas(cowherds) – Nanda and Yashoda. Then, he was named as Sri Krishna, and his story is recorded in the famous Hindus work referred as Bhagavat gita.


                 He was born to rid the world of the wicked. Since, his uncle Kamsa considered him as an enemy and he wanted to get rid of him as soon as he was born, by putting him to death.

                 People celebrate this auspicious day as Janmashtami and that they celebrate his birth by singing songs, Bhajans, play Krishna Leela. The grand celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami will be seen in Mathura and Brindavan. Lord Vishnu's​ incarnation Lord krishna came to earth to end the rule of adharma and injustice.


HOW JANMASHTAMI IS CELEBRATED:


                Breaking of Dahi Handi is extremely popular in North India. Children in the house are dressed as little Krishna on this special day and steals butter together with his friends. An elaborate pooja is done in temples and house to Lord Krishna late in the evening. People prepares his favorite foods like Seedai, Coconut seedai, Murukku, Appam, vennai, Thenkuzhal, Mullu murukku, Aval payasam.


THE VERSES IN BHAGAVAD-GITA:


                 The Hindu sacred book, narrated by Lord Vishnu says, that 


"whenever there'll a predominance of evil and decline of religion and faith, Vishnu will reincarnate to kill the evil and save the good!"


SIGNIFICANCE OF JANMASHTAMI: 


                 To encourage goodwill and to  discourage bad will.

JANMASHTAMI 2020:


                     In Tamil Nadu Krishna Jayanthi is celebrated on 11th August 2020 because of Ashtami thithi (Ashtami thithi will start on 7.55 AM of 11th august and ends on 9.36 Am of 12 th August.)

                     But North Indians celebrated on 12 th August 2020 because of the belief that Krishna born during night time.
